Facility will be built on Mission property

Las Vegas Rescue Mission founder, Pastor Edward Compton and his Board of Directors, had the vision and courage to acquire the property at a fraction of today’s value. As a result of their foresight, the new Dining and Training facility will be constructed on land currently owned by the Mission.

New Dining & Training Facility

Spring 2008

This new building will provide a 10,800 Sq. Ft. multi-purpose Dining and Training Facility with a 300-seat capacity with the following benefits to the Mission:

  • Added Feeding Capacity - A new dining facility will enhance our ability to serve a greater number of daily meals to those in need. Our capacity to feed will increase from over 700 meals to approximately 1400 meals daily.

  • Improved Efficiency - Our current 35-year-old dining facility shares space with a 48 bed emergency shelter. The dining area is limited to a small kitchen and eating section that can accommodate 145 per seating. Frozen and refrigerated foods are stored through out our campus and are carted to and from the kitchen every day. The plumbing and sewerage system are antiquated and expensive to maintain. Most of our cooking equipment and appliances have outlived their useful life.

A new dining facility will provide a centralized area for refrigeration equipment and freezers as well as storage of dry foods. With updated appliances, our kitchen staff and volunteers will be able to prepare and serve more nourishing meals more efficiently.

  • Multi Use Facility - This new multi-use facility will provide the flexibility to partition off the dining area into classrooms. The classrooms will be used for job training, and recovery program sessions.

  • Emergency Overnight Shelter - The new dining facility will enable us to utilize our current dining facility exclusively as an emergency overnight shelter. The capacity for our overnight shelter will double from 48 overnight beds to 96 with added showers and restrooms.

This special fund raising initiative by the Las Vegas Rescue Mission is more than constructing a new Dining and Training facility; it is a testament to the generous spirit of a caring community. We view sharing one’s time, talent and treasure as an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. Donations and raising funds to support our work is the life-blood of the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. The Mission is solely funded by private donations and uses no government assistance or taxes of any kind. This makes our efforts more challenging and rewarding knowing that all of the support and assistance afforded the needy is through the generosity of others.

Our continued work is dependent upon donors and volunteers. It is only through your generous spirit that every Las Vegan can have their basic needs and personal dignity to lead a meaningful life. This new facility is a major step in meeting the needs of our community. Please join us in this important work by using the donation box on the right and thank you for giving generously.
