My story begins with the fact that I am just 5 months from the worst time in my life…

I am an alcoholic/drug addict/sex addict with a hearty appetite. On the night of Oct. 30, 2005 I was on my way to jail. I had finally acted out on my addiction. The time I spent in jail was terrible. I can tell you, however, that God was with me.

I have been saved since I was 13 years old, but I know now that I never followed his plan for me. As I sat in jail one day I remember praying that if I was to go to prison, so be it. But, I prayed that I would do whatever it took if the Lord would just show me why I was the way I was. “Lord, show me how I could hurt someone in my own family that way and take a chance on losing the ones I loved.”

I was released on probation, thank the Lord, and found my way to the Rescue Mission. I had some real help along the way, though. There was a man that told me directions to another place, but somehow, they lead me here. Then another man told me to take a number for a bed ticket. Yet another told me talk to Bob. Still one more told me to take his ticket because he really didn’t need it. It was ticket number 5 as opposed to mine which was 15. There were 7 people called that night. Praise God.

I didn’t forget my prayer to God. I started right away to get the answers to the questions I had and, believe me, God will show you when you ask Him to. I am well on my way to a new way of thinking and life. Praise God for this place and for the wonderful people that are here to help. This place really does what it is supposed to. They honestly try to help each and every one that reaches out and really is ready to get help.

I am now in my last month of the program, but I know there is a long road ahead of me as far as learning about multiple addictions goes. I have had one other blessing along the way; I am in the process of making amends with those that I have hurt and have already received forgiveness from some. I thank the Lord for what has happened so far and can’t wait to see what God has in store for me.
