By David Hunt
My name is David Hunt, and I am an alcoholic/drug addict in recovery at the Las Vegas
Rescue Mission.
I grew up in Seattle, Washington in a loving, but dysfunctional family. I can remember traumatic events caused by alcohol abuse in my family, which have caused me in the past, to be fearful of people, places and things. Fear, which is an acronym for “Forget Everything And Run” has caused me to do just that. When faced with circumstances I am not comfortable with, I.E., relationships, jobs, resentments, etc. I run and hide, rather than deal with the problem or, rather, self-medicate with drugs and alcohol. But there is hope, proverbs 27:1 tells me, the Lord is my light and the one who saves me, I fear no one, the Lord protects my life: I am afraid of no one. Together, the Las Vegas Rescue Mission and Jesus Christ have given me a second chance at life, they have but accepted me, no matter what I have done in the past and Jesus has forgiven me of all my sins. The Las Vegas Rescue Mission and the Celebrate Recovery program have shown me how to recover from my addictions, how to make amends to those I have wronged and how to forgive those who have wronged me. How to live a sober life. Jesus Christ has shown me how living a “Christian life” can be rewarding and fun. He has shown me how to secure my retirement with him in heaven. I am no longer a restless wanderer, my life is slowly building a solid foundation with Him. David Hunt Resident Las Vegas Rescue Mission |
