By Charlene Vaughn I moved to Las Vegas from Alaska in Jan 2006. My sole purpose was to come here and self destruct. Many nights of gambling and drinking led to my being depressed. This went on for quite a while.
I was staying as an overnight guest at the mission and everyone there had been telling
me about this program they have for different kinds of addictions. I decided to
try it out. That’s when I found how much these people here really do care about
you and your well being. This is a program that “works”. The only thing you have
to do is believe in God, in yourself, and in other people. The program here is based
on a real, but honest account of all your past and present demons, they try to help
you get it out instead of suppressing it. One of the big sayings here is “let go”
give it to God. So many times I have done this. But this is what I depend on daily.
The support and love that comes from everyone here is overwhelming. I hope that some day I can give to them what they have given to me. There are so many things about a place like this, there is really no where to start and couldn’t begin to finish. There are so many people in need of a program such as this! I hope they continue to get the support they need to keep the mission open. My prayers will always be here, not because of what they have done for me, but what they do for everyone in need. They have given me a chance to start a new life, go to school for a skill of my choice, and stay here at the mission to help me save money for the things I will need when I can venture out on my own. I have started teaching a class in the recovery program, it feels good to be a part of what this program has done for me. I look forward to my new life, but not leaving my new home (my home at the mission). Forever Grateful, Charlene Vaughn Resident Las Vegas Rescue Mission |
